Prithvi Shaw Handed Maharashtra Captaincy for Ranji Trophy Season Opener vs Services

In a significant domestic leadership announcement, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has named explosive top-order batsman Prithvi Shaw as captain for the team's opening Ranji Trophy fixture against Services, commencing Sunday at the Palam Ground in New Delhi.

Leadership Responsibility for Rejuvenated Batter

Shaw, who moved to Maharashtra earlier this season seeking greater tactical responsibility and regular top-order tenure, impressed state selectors and team management during pre-season conditioning camps with his fitness and tactical vision.

The 26-year-old holds an illustrious record in domestic red-ball cricket, having famously struck a triple-century and captained India's Under-19 team to a World Cup triumph in 2018. Maharashtra officials believe leading from the front will extract the best from Shaw's aggressive mindset.

Facing a Resilient Services Outfit

Maharashtra face a challenging first assignment against Services, a side known for disciplined seam bowling and resilient attrition on northern pitches. Shaw will lead a youthful side featuring promising batters Arshin Kulkarni and Rajvardhan Hangargekar.

'This is a tremendous honour. Leading Maharashtra is a fresh chapter in my cricket journey, and our goal is to play positive, winning cricket right from day one against Services,' Shaw told reporters in New Delhi.
